Week 8 Discussion
DQ1 Traditionally, communication hasn’t been healthcare’s strong point. Incomprehensible reports, vague information, a tendency to be somewhat paternalistic and to become offended when questioned have long been the norm. How must healthcare organizations modify the way they do business in order to adapt to this new reality, and what are the consequences of a failure to adapt, especially with regard to delivery of usable information to patients?
DQ2 What commercially available app or gadget have you discovered originally intended for some purpose other than healthcare that may be useful in healthcare? Note that this question is intended to foster innovation, not to tout the benefits of a particular healthcare app. For example, have you found that a mapping program is beneficial to helping patients and their families find their way through a complex facility? What about a program that reads QR codes and how it can be tied in to signage in the organization to provide greater information to visitors? Or a remote program that facilitates parking, or allows one to pay for parking through their smart phone?
DQ3 What are your “lessons learned” and “takeaways” as a result of participating in this course? This question is intended to share your “Aha!” moments with your colleagues. What was made clearer or simplified through your learning in this class, maybe that you didn’t expect?
