In this unit, we are going to explore two very important ethical issues, confidentiality and privacy.
- After reading the resources for this unit, explain in your own words the difference between confidentiality and privacy according to the ethical codes of either NASW (2011) or ACA (2014).
- Please discuss the implications of the Tarasoff v. Board of Regents of the University of California case within the human services profession. Why is this case an important hallmark in the helping professions and development of ethical codes related to confidentiality and other related issues?
- When is it appropriate to break confidentiality as a human services professional? ·What are at least 2 ramifications of breaking confidentiality in thinking about the client as well as human services agency? If you do have to break confidentiality, what are the steps you would take in this process?
