5 Tips for Getting Good Grades in High School (3)

It doesn’t matter whether you want to improve your current grades or if you’re just trying to gain an upper hand in the future. Following this guide will help you thrive in your academic courses, now and in the future.

1. Make study space

In a quiet spot at home, a well-stocked desk is crucial, but variety is sometimes necessary. A change of scenery, such as at a coffee shop, library, park, or even sitting at the kitchen table, can help you remember information better.

2. Keep more than just HW in your planner

Plan with a calendar – but you have more to do than just homework assignments! Don’t forget to note your extracurricular, work, and social commitments, as well. There are numerous reminders for your planner, including tests, band practice, and away games.

3. Consider starting small

A research paper can seem to loom, but if you work on a piece every few days, you’ll stay motivated. Take a few minutes every night to write a paragraph. Consider doing 5 algebra problems at a time, and then taking a break.

4. Organization doesn’t happen by itself

Set up a system and stick to it. Keep a color-coded binder with tabs for every class in your schedule? Is it more convenient to maintain separate notebooks and a folder for handouts? It’s best to keep your system simple-if it’s too complicated, it’s less likely to be maintained regularly.

5. Maintain a routine

What time will you set aside every day to do your homework? Plan your study time (this may change from day to day, depending on your schedule!), and get started.
