Causes of World War 1

In the beginning, Russia, Belgium, France, Great Britain, and Serbia raged a war against Austria-Hungary & Germany. World war 1 was so lethal that by the time the war came to an end, the allied powers claimed victory, and over 16 million people, including soldiers and civilians, were found dead. 

 

The Western Front

The second event in world war 1 happened at the Western front. The Germans set off fighting world war one on two fronts by invading France through Belgium in the West & confronting Russia in the east. The famous aggressive military strategy used at the Western front was known as the Schlieffen Plan. According to the plan by sir Alfred Von Schlieffen, Germans raged world war one on two fronts by invading France through neutral Belgium in the West and confronting Russia in the East. 

 

Germans crossed the border into Belgium on August 4, 1914. In World War 1’s first battle, the Germans assaulted the fortified city of Liege. The German forces further used powerful weapons such as siege cannons for capturing the city by August 15. In their course, they shooted civilians executed a Belgian priest and whatnot. 

 

First Battle of the Marne

The battle was fought between September 6-9, 1914, in which French & British Forces confronted the German army. By then, the German forces have made their way deep into North-eastern France. Hence, the allied forces gave a strong counterattack to them and drove them back to the north of the Aisne River. The most reflective battles of the time included Verdun fought between February to December and the Battle of the Somme from July to November 1916. During the Battle of Verdun, both the German and French troops suffered and lost a lot of their men.
