The First Colony in North
In January 1585, Queen Elizabeth, the ‘virgin queen,’ allowed Walter Raleigh to place the first colony named Virginia, after her. Spanish were the first to establish colonies in North America. Sir Humphry Gilbert made the first attempt to colonize North America.
Life in the 17th Century in New England
In the 17th Century, Europeans faced many diseases with little resistance. Many people died because of the illness and King Philip’s war. Since a London-joint stock company established, many colonists shifted to Plymouth in December 1620.
The Great Revival
In the mid-18th Century, a tremendous religious revival took place in North America colonies and later named ‘The Great Awakening.’ There were some leading figures in the revival namely, William Tenents 1673-1745, Jonathan Edwards 1703-1758, and a Scottish-Presbyterian preacher.
