There is nothing more addictive than crispy thin French fries with tomato ketchup or mayonnaise. These fried potato pancakes have been one of the most loved side dishes over the century. From burgers to poached eggs, it has been the best sidekicks to so many dishes. You might wonder who invented the French fries. Do not go with the name; it might not be the French who invented it. But then who did?<\/p>\n

The Untold History of French Fries <\/span><\/h2>\n

Historians claim that their delicacy, French fries may not be a French creation but a Belgian one. In the late 1600s, potatoes were being fried in Belgium. Belgian villagers sliced their fishes into thin pieces, fried them and ate as a snack.\u00a0 But in winter, the river would freeze, and it got difficult for the villagers to get the fish. As an alternative, they started to slice potatoes the same way and fried them. And our beloved French fries were created.<\/p>\n

During World War One, American soldiers tried this fried delicacy for the first time and immediately fell in love with it. Since the language of southern Belgium is French, they entitled them as “French” fries, and the name got popular thereon. This name thing ignited a heated argument between France and Belgium. While the discovery of french fries by Belgians is correct or not, they do consume the most French fries per capita of any country in Europe.<\/p>\n

The love for French fries across the globe has nothing to do with who invented it, till they can enjoy their fries peacefully. It is teamed differently in every country. In Belgium, people often team their fries with a fried egg on top of it. Fish ‘n’ chips are one of America’s favorite style of having them.<\/p>\n

In the Middle-East, French fries are found inside the pita bread with other fillings to make a wholesome snack. Poutine is a famous dish that hails from Canada. It consists of French fries and cheese curds, topped with exclusive lip-smacking brown gravy.
