An infinitely long cylinder has a circular cross section of radius a and its axis along the z axis. A steady current I is distributed uniformly over the cross section and is in the positive z direction.
(a) Obtain expressions for the B field inside and outside the cylinder.
(b) Using these values of B obtain expressions for the vector potential, A, inside and outside the cylinder. Remember there will be an arbitrariness to your values of A since the gradient of any scalar field can be added to A without changing B.
(c) Using at obtain definite expressions for A inside and outside the cylinder?
(d) What is the value of A on the cylinder axis?
