Question 1: Ocean is a system. What Is a system and what are the components that make up a system? Give an example from an everyday life of a system.
Question 2: Without the plate tectonics Earth will be a very different place. Give some of the ways that plate tectonics which has shaped the Earth spheres, the geosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and atmosphere?
Question 3: Mangroves are one of the few true plants that live in the oceans. Why?
Question 4: Describe the climate in your local area. Compare it with the climate in another location at the same latitude. Explain how the ocean plays a role in determining the climate in both?
Question 5: factors such as ocean surface temperature, water currents, amounts of solar radiation, etc… determine where things live. Also, several visualizations of satellite data like sea ice, ocean circulation, sea surface temperature, atmospheric circulation, and ocean productivity. We have to Choose two of these visualizations and examine how the factors depicted interact to impact living things. Make sure to describe how the factors vary over seasonal and longer time scales. How do these factors influence where organisms can live? Why is data like this of economic importance?
Question 6:Imagine that we increase the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Explain what you think will happen and why. Now imagine that we decrease the amount of CO2in the atmosphere. Explain what you think will happen and why. You may want to review the information on albedo presented in Week 4 as well as think about how this ties into the carbon cycle.
