Scientists at the NIH do some of their own research into different diseases and even, potentially, cures, but even more importantly, this agency is a big source of grant money to other independent researchers who can look into these things. In fact NIH is a preferred source of grant funding for most medical and public health researchers. How could these scientific grants be--and how have they been--helpful to public health? (Be sure to cite your sources.)
