Fall Semester 2015

Assignment #4
Due date: December 9th, 2015
1. For Figure 1:
a. Draw the DC equivalent circuit and the AC equivalent circuit for the unloaded
amplifier.
b. Determine the Rin(base), Rin(tot) and AV values.
c. Connect a bypass capacitor across RE and repeat step (b).
d. Connect a 10 kΩ load resistor to the output and repeat step (b).

2. Assume that a 600 Ω, 12 μV rms voltage source is driving the amplifier in Figure 2.
Determine the overall voltage gain by taking into account the attenuation in the base
circuit, and find the total output voltage (AC and DC). What is the phase relationship of
the collector signal voltage to the base signal voltage?

3. For Figure 3:
a. Determine the exact voltage gain for the unloaded emitter-follower.
b. What is the total input resistance? What is the DC output voltage?
c. A load resistance, is capacitively coupled to the emitter. In terms of signal
operation, the load appears in parallel with RE and reduces the effective emitter
resistance. How does this affect the voltage gain?
d. In part (c), what value of RL will cause the voltage gain to drop to 0.9?
