The Responsibility ProjectStudent’s NameProfessor’s Name:July 14, 2013The Responsibility Project Ethics and morals are very important to run an organization successfully. Organizational principles can be addressed in an unbiased manner if only ethical morals form the first priority of an organization. The way ethical issues get applied and used in organizational principles will form the basis of this paper. Information about a short film redeemed from the ‘Responsibility Project’ web site, is also accounted in this paper. The main highlights and discussions in this paper include – important issues of the film, the role which external social pressures play in influencing organizational ethics, relevance of these issues in organizational and personal decisions, the interrelationship between legal and ethical issues as depicted in the film, the reason for which the issues in the film can be termed important. The short film ‘Good Vibrations’ is a playful lively animated story which reflects an image of community responsibility and the cost of being contented. This film mainly focuses on group responsibilities of the society. The way in which an organization and community behaves is shown wonderfully here (Good vibrations, 2009). The backdrop of the film is the society response when they see helpless individuals walking down the sidewalk and tripping and falling. The employees of an organization find it very hilarious when other individuals trip on the pavement. They laugh and mock them without warning the upcoming individuals about the danger about to come. It is after sometime when an employee sees an elderly person approaching that he opens the window to warn him about the loose bricks and signals him at the danger sign. This saves him from getting injured. The main thing highlighted here is the way in which how only a single person takes up the responsibility of warning people approaching the defective pavement, while others enjoy the helplessness of the falling people. An interrelation of this kind can be found when linked with the attitudes of many organizations. Many times serious problems are figured out by many individuals regarding particular organizations. But he is laughed upon and his serious attempt of improving the same becomes a humorous topic of discussion. With time they get all the more ignored by others. But in the long run it is the organization which suffers for its glitches and of lack of its positive attitude to embrace developments. External Social Pressures and Organizational Ethics External Social Pressures influence organizational ethics widely. Many a times the number of stake holders like the employee, customer, shareholder etc in a company increase greatly. As a result of which their interests overlap causing problems in the organization. Enron’s example in this matter can be cited .To continue with the existing stakeholders and invite new share investments Enron started an off the books partnership to hide its massive debts (Trevino and Nelson, 2006). On the knowledge of this financial crisis of Enron’s business to the outside world, a major reaction was inevitable and the business would come crumbling down. But due to social pressures Enron handled the matter differently. This is an instance of how external social pressures affect organizational ethics.Organizational and Personal Decisions In order to save an organization’s turnover, profits and deals many times legal and ethical responsibilities of the organization are neglected. To save the organization from its internal and external troubles the head sometimes makes and implements his own decisions. But in doing so they forget that just for the sake of saving the company the unethical decisions made would ultimately ruin the scenario in the long run. In the case of Enron’s scandal the illegal and unethical decisions were made in the employees good knowledge, but they decided to remain numb to the situation. And when the real scenario got exposed people tried their best to save and safe guard themselves from the problem. But this jeopardized the organization’s reputation. It would have a much wiser and better alternative to Enron to reveal their financial status earlier and stay away from such unethical decisions.Relationship between Legal and Ethical Issues Between legal and ethical issues many a times a correlation is common. The things and decisions which are unethical are mostly illegal also. In the film it is seen that the employees laugh and mock at the helpless individuals. This might not be sighted as an illegal issue but is certainly an unethical one. The employees should have taken the responsibility of fixing the pavement or putting up a danger sign to warn the pedestrians instead of laughing at them. Conclusion The short film tells us the real story of what might happen to an organization if its employees lack the courage to protest for the right and take a moral stand. A negative influence of one unethical employee might become enough to spoil the organization .Even though external social pressure plays an inevitable role in influencing the organizational ethics a moralistic approach must be maintained by the organization for the greater good . The organizational issues are also influenced by many internal issues. ReferencesTrevino, L.K. & Nelson, K.A. (2006).Managing business ethics: Straight talk about how to do it right (4th ed.).
