This project would be based on this below Thesis and Map

Thesis and Map

Emma Watson said, "No country in the world can yet say they have achieved gender equality (Lechliter, n.d.)."There is no doubt these writers would agree. The selected essays focus on prose bit of literary works with major focus on essays with the theme of race and ethnicity. The two authors have a common feature. The main thing that they both exemplifyconcerns isabout the “Negro.” African Americans discover opportunities for imaginative social expression all over the place, from slang to religion to home decorating, despite living inside white society.

Thesis

There are similarities in the two essays and one of them is centered on the issues of race and representation in African-American culture. They essentially focus on the identity of an African-American.

Map

The two prominent authors of the Harlem Renaissance were Alaine LeRoy Locke and Zora Neale. The two works that will be discussed in this essay are “New Negro” by Alaine Locke and “Characteristics of Negro Expression”. The “New Negro” essay identifies a new image of an African-American with the ability to make achievements. Alaine describes an era where the blacks are supposed to be treated equally with other races. The "Characteristics of Negro expression” focuses or examines an African-American art or workmanship as a process and a method for living, instead of a fixed accumulation of products. The similarities are evident in their essays about the new life of the African-American or the “Negro.” They explain the status of the new Negro and his position as a result of a revolution(Day, 1998).

First point of this essay is a brief history of both of these authors. They were both of different backgrounds, but had some similarities in the way in which they were raised. Alaine Locke was an American writer and philosopher, an acknowledged “Dean of the Harlem Renaissance.” He was born on September 13, 1885, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and into a well-known family. Zora Neale was an American novelist and a short story writer. She was born on January 7, 1891, in Notasulga, Alabama at a time of racial tensions between blacks and whites in the southern United States (Biography, 2016).

The second point of this essay is to show the contrast in their views on the fight for the recognition of African American people of something other than the lowest class of American people. The major difference is on how they express their ideas in their poems; with one expressing vividly the facts and the other expresses these facts without a trace.

The third and final point is the similarities that these two authors use present day writing when their essays. They both express the struggle of the black or Negro people for remembrance at a time where the white people supremacy. Another notable similarity is that they spearhead a revolution and both are of dark nature(Day, 1998).

Conclusion

Finally, the two essays are from authors who help us to understand the evolution of the African American in society. They both essay are similar essays, but one of them is centered on the problems of race and representation in African-American culture. The authors focus on the African-American (Negro) finding his place in the ever shifting sociocultural landscape that was 1920s in America. These essays help us relate to the historical coverage of a monumental and fascinating time in the history of America.
